You told me that sometimes you didn't know what you were doing with settling here. You didn't want to be like that for the rest of your life. You got lost. And I would tell you that everything is a matter of choice and your choice is because of him. You shouldn't risk your life in one bet. He may be sharing with you entirely what he has been used to. But this is his journey, not yours. If you wanna get rid of the frustration, you've gotta create your own path and establish your own attachments in this place.
